A philanthropist and entertainer, will.i.am said that the values he learned as a child from his family and community would not change. “A trillion dollars won't change my past," he told CNBC's Tania Bryer at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Growing up, his mother signed up their family to distribute food to the poor in their neighborhood. Rich people giving poor people food is the only thing they don't want. As a result, my family gave away free food to poor families, and we were one of them," he said.

“As crazy as that may sound that that was a horrible life to live, it was a beautiful life experience because everyone was poor, but we were all there for one another,” he added.

Through his i.am/Angel Foundation, Will.i.am advocates for more STEAM education in areas like the one he grew up in through extracurricular activities, tutoring and preparatory schools. Will.i.am told CNBC that many of the program's students go on to study engineering.
