The Warriors have acquired Payton from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Kevin Knox and five second-round picks. The deal is pending Payton's physical after undergoing abdominal surgery offseason.

Wiseman was sent to the Detroit Pistons for Knox and Saddiq Bey, which was then traded to the Atlanta Hawks for five second-round picks.

With a roster that tipped too heavily one way or the other after winning its fourth NBA championship in eight years, the Warriors never exactly managed to strike the right balance while trying to act smart.
