A three-team trade between the Pistons, New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets was made official the day after the 2022 NBA draft last week, and it saw Walker go from New York to Detroit. In addition to Walker, the Pistons acquired the draft rights to No. 13 overall pick Jalen Duren.

While he was initially treated as the prized addition of their offseason, he was eventually removed from the rotation entirely due to his struggles on both ends of the floor. When the Knicks needed to clear cap space to sign Jalen Brunson as their new long-term point guard, Walker was a casualty in a draft night trade.

One of the great mysteries of the Pistons off-season is … why is Kemba Walker still with the Pistons? It all seemed so cut and dry. The Knicks traded Walker and his $9 million salary, to the Pistons as part of the trade that got Detroit a pick in the draft to take Jalen Duren.

With the addition of Wallace, the Pistons won 16 of their final 19 games finishing second in the Central Division with a 54–28 record. Ben Wallace was selected for the 2004 NBA All-Star Game.

The Pistons acquired Walker, 32, in a trade with the New York Knicks during the 2022 NBA draft that also brought Jalen Duren, taken as the No. 13 pick, to Detroit.

The main reason for their move was to increase attendance. And even that hasn't happened much anyway. This past season the Pistons ranked dead last for the percentage of seats sold out of all 30 NBA teams, selling only 76 percent of seats at Little Caesars Arena, per Detroit Metro News.
