Recruiting spending at Georgia reached $4.5 million, one-third of all schools

Georgia football's athletic department is investing heavily in the two-time national champions. In response to an open-records request, the Athens Banner-Herald reported Wednesday that the Bulldogs spent nearly $4.5 million on football recruiting in fiscal year 2022.

As of 2022, no program at a Power Five public school has even come close to matching that number.

Texas A&M comes in at No. 2 with $2.98 million, Tennessee is No. 3 with $2.92 million, followed by Texas at $2.44 million and Alabama at $2.32 million.

Aside from Georgia, Michigan is the only other school to report spending more than $1.85 million (or $2.24 million).

Neither Clemson nor Oklahoma have released their financial reports to USA TODAY Network as of yet. Virginia Tech and California haven't either.

Josh Brooks, Georgia's athletic director, did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the football recruiting spending.
