COVER.METALNATION.ORG On May 6, Queen Camilla will be crowned alongside King Charles III wearing a historic royal heirloom. Buckingham Palace announced Tuesday that the Queen Consort will wear Queen Mary's Crown. Queen Mary wore the crown, set with 2,200 diamonds, during the 1911 coronation alongside her husband, King George V.

COVER.METALNATION.ORG "In the interests of sustainability and efficiency," the palace said, it will be the first time in recent history that an existing crown will be used to coron a Queen Consort rather than a new commission.

COVER.METALNATION.ORG A special touch honoring Queen Elizabeth II will be included in the crown. Diamonds from the late monarch's personal jewelry collection, Cullinan III, IV, and V, are being reset on the headpiece. Brooches were her favorite.
