"James at 15" actor Lance Kerwin, who played Mark Petrie in Stephen King miniseries Salem's Lot, died Tuesday in San Clemente, Calif. Age 62. An autopsy is underway, according to his daughter Savanah.

"James at 15" became "James at 16" in season 2 from "James at 15." Kerwin began his career as a child actor, appearing in television and film.

He starred in “James at 15” and “James at 16.” Originally premiering in 1977, “James at 15” followed a young teenage boy fascinated with photography sent from Oregon to Massachusetts by his family.

Thousands of letters were sent in protest after the series aired an episode in which James engaged in premarital sex and lost his virginity. In the 1977-1978 season, "James at 16" continued the story of the struggling teen.

The series was notable for dealing with issues of the day, unlike many shows about teens in the 1970s.

Kerwin became a teenage heartthrob even though "James at 15" only lasted two seasons. His cover stories for fan magazines like Tiger Beat helped him land multiple cover stories during the 1970s.

During an interview in 2019, he talked about working with Tobe Hopper, who was “on a whole different level” than most directors he had worked with.”
