The bead was found in dirt that was removed from a Roman structure in Emek Tzurim National Park during an archeological dig in the City of David in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

During the course of her work at a sifting station, Hallel Feidman, 18, spotted the unique bead.

"I poured the pail onto the sieve and began to wash the material that was brought from the excavations in the City of David," Feidman said, according to a release on the finding. "And then I saw something shiny in the corner of the sieve, different, that I don’t normally see."

"I immediately approached the archeologist, and he confirmed that I found a gold bead. Everyone here was very excited," she added.

An affluent individual is believed to have worn the bead as part of a necklace or bracelet - a theory that is also supported by its location. On the Pilgrimage Road in David, a "grandiose structure" once stood, more than 80 feet long.

Additionally, an iDr and mosaic floor were found in the building, suggesting the residents were wealthy. The technique used in creating the gold bead made it a particularly special find, according to Israel Antiquities Authority expert Amir Golani.
