Britney Spears' Father Defends Conservatorship: 'Most Don't Know'

By Vasantha

With Britney's release from conservatorship and the 'Free Britney' movement, Jamie Spears has received a lot of attention. As conservator, he has been at the center of legal and public relations fallout.

His role as her father was to manage her finances and make decisions for her. Aside from legal maneuvers, the patriarch has mostly remained silent. Britney Spears herself has bashed Jamie on social media, as have fans. If Jamie Spears is to be believed, he's not the villain in the story.

This week, he spoke about his feelings on the conservatorship. During his chat with The Daily Mail, he pointed out that what has been portrayed about Spears' situation is not "the truth."

All I can say is that most people don’t have a clue what the truth is. Her lawyer doesn’t have a clue what the truth is. The media has not heard the truth. They’ve heard the allegations from Britney. I don’t mind taking that beating because I know it’s not true, and because I don’t want to start something else. For my daughter to end up going further down the hole than she had been.

Documentaries and Spears herself have contributed to the fan perception of Jamie Spears as a villain. Since getting access to her own social media, the singer has talked about how bad her life was under her father's conservatorship. She was banned from drinking wine, driving, and using ATMs.

She needs to be "protected" by having her life more regulated, her father said, but he didn't address those specific restrictions. If a court hadn't intervened, he isn't sure if she would still be alive.

Where would Britney be right now without that conservatorship? And I don't know if she'd be alive. I don't.For protecting her, and also protecting the kids, conservatorship was a great tool. Without it, I don't think she would have got the kids back.
